I think the issue with the pacing is also that while it maybe was artificial, the fact Ash travelled meant past series had a sense of progress even if it was, say, Johto and its filler hell, while having Ash sitting around with no proper longterm goals makes it seem like not much is happening even if things are happening and quite a lot changed from episode 1, bringing up some kind of Arc Fatigue. While I personally prefer XY still for a variety of reasons, I'd be hardpressed to call SM bad by any means, and I really feel most of the flaws you can give to SM have to do with them still not honing the new formula they are using. I don't really believe in spoilers so everything is fair game.

Feel free to discuss or bring up things that happen in future or past episodes. It could be the worst opinion ever, I don't really care. Although seeing Pikachu get beat by a Grubbin was painful to watch.Īnyway, this is all my opinion. Although, thankfully they didn't completely dumb down Ash and they also didn't completely nerf Pikachu's power (for the most part). The show, at this point, feels like a soft reboot to the series. But it really feels like they are trying to hammer home a nostalgic factor and making it feel like a 90s anime. The season isn't bad by any means, it could still get better though and I'm sure it will in time. (NOTE: I'm still only on episode 10, so all of this may have become irrelevant by now) Although, at the same time, it is refreshing to see the show take on a completely different pace than before. Ash has always learned by getting experience, so seeing him in school is kind of a drag. I'd like to see him leave the trainer school behind and actually explore the islands. I guess the goal for this season is to master z-moves? Also his life seems to be fairly repetitive at this point: go to school, try to catch a new pokemon, maybe do an island challenge. I mean, there is the overarcing goal of him wanting to be a Pokemon master, but that's it. It doesn't seem like Ash has any real goals to go off of. Now the actual story at this point seems fairly slow. Even though some of it is silly, I kind of dig it. It seems like they are so much more expressive this season than before. Also Ash and Pikachu's facial expressions really sell me on it. I actually like the character art though, I didn't at first but I think around episode 3 it grew on me. And in some characters I get the vibe that they were designed to look like they belong in the first season of Pokemon. It's actually almost a throwback to some anime from the 90s. The character art is interesting as well, it doesn't look as clean as X and Y. I like the colors, it's almost similar to some of the episodes in the Orange Islands Arc, where it's tropical and very colorful. They seem to be taking a much more lighthearted approach to this season compared to X and Y, kind of reminds me of the very first season of Pokemon except Ash actually knows what he is doing this time (for the most part). So pretty much I missed the stuff from the Sinnoh region and the Unova. I recently saw X and Y on Netflix I started watching those. Then I stopped watching for whatever reason. As a kid I watched the first season all the way till the end of Hoenn. And so far the series is definitely different than the other seasons I've watched.

I recently just started watching the sun and moon anime today (got to about episode 10).
